Мне не попадалось слово specie в значении «металлические деньги», хотя в словарях оно есть. С ходу нашел статью:

Позапрошлый век, однако. Возможно, это слово устаревшее. А вообще не стоит проверять английский текст с помощью машинных переводчиков.

P.S. Советую подправить пунктуацию, например:
