Why? Just take a look at this:
Gentoo. Java port, the latest stable version.
CPU: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2640 0 @ 2.50GHz, 24(!) cores.
RAM: 32GB
Users: 2(!)
Seemingly, the game should run smoothly. I would even say, it should run SO SMOOTHLY you would not believe your eyes!

Yeah. And I see such warnings constantly, though I’ve configured loading of 16 chunks only.
If my memory doesn’t fail me, they say there is a simple method that was invented long ago to improve performance, and it really works. They say, though you might not believe me, this method is, however strangely it sounds...

P.S. Sorry guys, it’s a sore subject for me. I’m sick and tired of it. Could you please do something about it. You seem to have an ocean of opportunities for paralleling each and every thing. Why don’t you separate blocks from entities, the world from redstone, and the world from light? Yes, you’ll have to use some semaphores and mutexes for that. But, for chrissake, do at least something.
