To be more precise, on line #19 declaration is using a generic argument of visitImpl function, even more precisely, its Type, that is, dynamic type of a given instance. At the same time, on line #25 argument #2 is passed using a computed variable on line #6, to be specific, this computed variable casts dynamic type of C struct instance to one of its parent protocol’s A type.
This code is quite complicated and is an edge case, it should not be used in production in general, but it should also not cause the compiler to crash.

Digging into the History of ASTMangler.cpp

Before this commit, which disabled mangling for “OpenedArchetype” types, those OpenedArchetype types were mangled as follows:

1. auto openedType = cast<OpenedArchetypeType>(tybase);
2. return appendType(openedType->getInterfaceType(), sig, forDecl);

On line #1 a dynamic cast is done to downcast the “node” to OpenedArchetypeType. Line #2 then “appendsType” to the current Buffer member variable, which contains currently mangled Swift code in ASTMangler.cpp. This mangling “was not used in any stable manner” according to comments in the source code. What I understand from this comment is that OpenedArchetype was not mangled directly, but from its interface type, type for mangling was used.

When your product is “independent journalism”, that commercial strategy is tricky, because too much independence might alienate your audience, while too little can lead to charges of hypocrisy that strike at the heart of the brand. To the horror of the newsroom, Trump won the presidency. Many Times staff members – scared, angry – assumed the Times was supposed to help lead the resistance It became one of Dean Baquet’s frequent mordant jokes that he missed the old advertising-based business model, because, compared with subscribers, advertisers felt so much less sense of ownership over the journalism.
